Biodiversity Arts and Music (BAM)

Biodiversity Arts and Music (BAM) is a new not-for-profit cooperative bringing together musicians, artists, researchers to create powerful, immersive experiences that reconnect people with the more-than-human world.

BAM will support the first goal of the 2024 Australian Strategy for Nature to 'connect all Australians with Nature'. It will support artist and musical initiatives by providing legal vehicle under which to apply for funding and grants for  projects that enhance the wider community's understanding of and engagement with nature, to protect, return and restore land to nature.

The first project that BAM will support builds on the success of the climate focused show, 'Music for a Warming World'. Called 'Symbiotica' will be a live, narrated, multimedia, musical and visual celebration of biodiversity, ecological entanglement, and the shared futures of all living beings. This project is currently under development and exploring partnerships with Universities and other organisations.

You can Join BAM!

We’re inviting like-minded people—artists, environmentalists, musicians, educators, scientists, and supporters of ecological transformation—to become founding members of this initiative. As a member, you’ll be helping to:

  • Establish BAM as a legal cooperative under Victorian law

  • Support the creation of ground-breaking music and arts projects grounded in biodiversity and the more-than-human world

  • Build eligibility for grants and funding that enable future projects like Symbiotica to tour nationally

  • Shape the vision and governance of a new kind of arts / science collaboration

  • Connect with a vibrant community of artists, scientists, and change makers

  • Promote ecological awareness through art and performance

Member Benefits

✅ Free membership for the first year after BAM is officially established (any future membership cost will be discussed by the board)

✅ Help us become grant-ready and support powerful environmental storytelling
✅ Be part of a growing movement to celebrate and restore biodiversity through the arts

Governance and Next Steps

We are currently in the process of forming our inaugural Board of Directors. This board will help guide BAM through its legal formation and initial strategic development, including:

  • Electing office bearers (e.g., Treasurer, Secretary)

  • Approving BAM's purpose and objectives

  • Finalising the cooperative's name and registering with Consumer Affairs Victoria

  • Overseeing financial transparency and governance for funding applications

Board roles are voluntary and aligned with BAM’s not-for-profit mission.
